On the event, she presented “Indonesia, A Democratic State (on paper): The Current Structure of Illiberal Democracy in Indonesia” the summary of the paper is below:
After two decades of authoritarian rule and democratic transition in 1998, democracy in Indonesia might seem to be working on the surface.
But the illiberal regime has been even more pronounced in Jokowi’s second term. Some examples of this trend include the passage of the Omnibus Law, the new Constitutional Court law, and the Law on State Capital (IKN), just to name a few. The presentation will dissect and show the current legal structure of illiberal democracy in Indonesia that causes the nation’s democracy to be a facade.
The 15th International Indonesia Forum Conference was hosted virtually by Yale University this year. It brought the theme of Indonesia’s Complexity: Investigating the Layers between the Apparent and the Underlying, invites scholars from all over the world to examine the multilayered dimensions of Indonesian society in their own fields of research and analysis.
The conference welcomes scholars of Indonesia from across various disciplines – including arts, history, political science, economics, anthropology, sociology, literary studies, and others – to gather and present their work, with a view toward highlighting Indonesia’s complexity in its various articulations.
